His Story

Leryal “Rel” Matthews, a 21-year-old father, was senselessly gunned down on June 20, 2018, in Braddock, Pennsylvania. His life was taken far too soon, leaving behind family, friends, and a child who will grow up without the presence of their father.

According to investigators, the shooting happened shortly after 1 a.m. at a home on Talbot Avenue. A witness reported that someone knocked on the door and announced “Police.” When the door was opened, a masked man forced his way inside the home and opened fire, killing Leryal as he lay in bed. The suspect then fled the scene.

Despite the investigation and appeals for information from the public, no one has been held responsible for Leryal’s death.

Leryal was more than the tragedy that ended his life. He was a father, a son, and a young man whose future should have continued.
