Her Story

Iowa Meriweather was only 9 months old when her life was tragically taken on August 28, 2020, in Evansville, Indiana.

According to investigators, Iowa died from a gunshot wound to the head while inside a home. Authorities later charged her father, Anthony Meriweather, with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, stating that the circumstances surrounding the firearm led to the infant’s fatal injury.

Iowa was only a baby — a child who had barely begun her life. She should have been surrounded by safety, care, and love as she grew and experienced the world for the first time. Instead, her life ended far too soon in a tragedy that left a family and community grieving.

Her name is remembered here so that her short life is not forgotten.
