His Story

Daevion Raines was only 15 years old when his life was tragically taken on June 16, 2018, in Duquesne, Pa. He was a young teenager with his whole future ahead of him — a son, a brother, and a friend whose presence brought joy to the people around him. In the early hours of that morning, Daevion was riding in a car near Newford Alley when the vehicle was suddenly ambushed by gunfire. Investigators later reported that more than a dozen shots were fired into the car. Daevion was found in the back seat suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 17-year-old driver was also shot and injured.

Those who knew Daevion described him as a kindhearted young man who brought smiles to those around him and had a positive energy about him. His death left his family and community devastated. Daevion’s mother has spoken openly about the grief of losing her son and has worked to turn that pain into purpose by supporting programs that help young people and address violence in the community.

Daevion was more than the tragedy that took his life. He was a teenager who loved his family, especially his younger brother who looked up to him and waited every day for him to come home.

His story is remembered here so that his life is never reduced to a statistic. Daevion Raines was a young life that mattered, and his memory continues to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
