His Story

Tru Lei Butcher was only 17 years old when his life was tragically taken on May 29, 2021, at approximately 4:24 p.m. in Richmond, California. Tru was just weeks away from graduating high school and stepping into the next chapter of his life.

According to a post shared by Bay Area Peacekeepers on May 31, 2021, Tru was remembered as a good young man with a bright future ahead of him. His grandmother, who loved him deeply, had moved him to Virginia in hopes of giving him a safer environment and a better opportunity to grow away from the violence that too often affects young men in his hometown.

Tru was a son, a grandson, and a young man whose life mattered to the people who loved him. His future should have been filled with opportunity, celebration, and the milestones that come with becoming an adult.

Instead, his life was cut short far too soon. Tru Lei Butcher’s story is remembered here so that his life and story will never be forgotten.
