Her Story

Jazmere “Jazy” B. Custis was a bright and promising young woman with so much ahead of her. At just 19 years old, she was pursuing her studies and looking forward to her future when her life was tragically cut short.
Jazmere was an enthusiastic student majoring in clinical and child psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was home for the summer with family and friends when the unthinkable happened.
On the night of June 22, 2018 in Munhall, Pennsylvania, Jazmere was sitting in a car on Margaret Street when someone opened fire. She suffered fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three others were injured.
Investigators described the shooting as a drive-by attack and continue to ask the public for information as her family seeks truth and accountability.

This case remains unsolved, and police continue to seek information from the public.

Jazmere’s loss reverberated through her community — her family remembers her as someone who brought joy into the lives of those around her, a loving daughter and a sister with bright dreams for the future.
Though her life was taken far too soon, Jazmere’s memory lives on through the love of her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her story is a reminder of the urgent need for peace and safety in every community.
